Zig Zag Railway

Zig Zag Railway, Tourism New South Wales

When it was built in 1869, the Zig Zag Railway was a revolutionary engineering achievement, opening up Blue Mountains towns such as Lithgow, which had previously been isolated from the coast. Today it operates as a tourist railway, passing through beautiful mountain scenery, with trips departing from Clarence (10 kilometres east of Lithgow) daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Kids will love the special Friends of Thomas days, when Thomas the Tank Engine himself heads the train.
