Cloudlands, originally built for the Swiss consul, is a remarkable lodge crafted from jarrah and redwood timbers. In the beautifully terraced gardens a writers’ retreat, modelled on the main house, was erected in the 1930s. After purchasing the property in 1997, the current owners extensively restored the two dwellings and the retreat is now an elegant, spacious and secluded getaway for up to seven guests. The comfortable, self-contained cottage has thoughtful extras such as complimentary aromatherapy toiletries and home-baked treats, not to mention the bookrack resting on the claw-foot bathtub. The best restaurants and walks in the Blue Mountains are nearby and there is a private entrance to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk.
