Marked tree

In the early years of European settlement, the Great Dividing Range was a barrier to the spread of settlement. Then in May 1813, the famous explorers Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson found a route across the Blue Mountains. Supposedly, they carved their initials in a tree and today the stump can be seen, sheltered and floodlit, by the side of the highway.
