Ainslie, Braddon and Dickson

If you are in need of a good coffee, a tasty Chinese meal or a beer in the sun, head to the inner north-eastern suburbs. This is an area with an ‘alternative’ atmosphere, traditionally populated by Canberra’s students. The shopping precincts of these suburbs offer small art galleries, interesting fashion and street cafes. Ainslie and Braddon have some of Canberra’s earliest houses, and make for pleasant walking. In Braddon, browse the Hive Gallery (on Lonsdale Street) for one-of-a-kind gifts. Ainslie is also home to the historic All Saints Church (on Cowper Street). Further north, Dickson is a hive of activity and home to Canberra’s small version of Chinatown (on Woolley Street).
