Italian and Sons
Italian and Sons is a relatively new eatery set to transform the car yards beside the city centre into dining heaven. This is ‘butcher’s paper and charcuterie cool’, owned by the Trimboli family of Canberra’s high-end Mezzalira restaurant. At Italian and Sons, they aim for a more casual family feel – cured meats above the bar, a wood-fired oven behind where Pat Trimboli tosses pizza bases, and a short menu that gets straight to the point. Start with cured meats, like the luscious Calabrian nduja, so squishy it’s spooned on to the plate. Then pizza, blistered from the wood-fired oven, or consider the plate of the day. There’s only one daily main: pork on Tuesdays, fish on Fridays, and beef, veal and lamb on other days.
