Araluen Old Courthouse

This four-star cottage dates back to 1861, when it was built at the height of the Araluen gold rush. The sandstone bricks are original, made on-site. Today, this charming B&B presents a fascinating piece of preserved history: even the prisoners’ old exercise yard has been kept but is now used as a verandah. You are invited to go to gaol and sleep in the old cells, converted to guest rooms, some arranged for familes. It may be rustic but there are also plenty of contemporary touches like the hot outdoor spa bath for relaxing under a galaxy of stars. There is much to do at this welcoming property, including taking a dip in the swimming pool or enjoying a cup of tea in the wisteria-covered tea garden. A cooked breakfast is included and dinner can be served by arrangement.
