Iori is anything but a standard sushi bar. Its style is exuberant, and the food is fresh and fascinating. A small, relatively unadorned and quite casual restaurant, it is near the bus interchange in the centre of town. While the surrounds are not the most salubrious, you’ll come away entertained by the exciting food, replenished and with a smile on your face. Look out for the ‘real eel meal deal’, made up of an eel roll, grilled eel, eel tempura and a whole lot more. Or ‘bara aria’, a symphony indeed of barramundi; ox tongue that you cook yourself at the table; and slippery deep-fried eggplant. Add a seaweed salad, a jug of sake, and you’re set. Just down the road is a super-casual and cheap sister restaurant, called Coo.
