This is a really lovely restaurant at the higher quality end in Canberra, perfect for soaking up nice service, great wine and an elegant Italian menu. In the historic Melbourne Building in the city, Mezzalira has been through several incarnations over the years, including being run by a long-time Canberra foodie family who opened one of the city’s first Italian delicatessens. In recent years, the restaurant has been taken firmly up-market. The food is well considered and beautifully prepared – look for the braised oxtail in firm pasta parcels or wood-roasted Berkshire suckling pork on lentils. This place is one of the best choices for a dressed-up dinner.
