In one of Canberra’s plush inner-south suburbs, Rubicon is a favourite among foodies. It keeps things simple, with nothing too fussy, but is nevertheless adventurous and the results are so very delicious. Abalone and oysters with shiitake mushrooms, pork with plums and caramelised apple, chicken with tarragon on beetroot, pear and Roquefort – in many ways these are unsurprising combinations, but they’re beautifully achieved. The wine list is probably the best in town, with a fantastic international selection, a good range of half bottles and some top wines by the glass.
