See the centre of Australian government with its iconic 81-metre flagpole. On sitting days (check the website for dates) attend the lively question time at 2pm (free, but it’s a good idea to book ahead) and you should spot a few famous faces. Don’t miss: walking on the grass lawn on top of the building, seeing one of the only original copies of the Magna Carta, and standing before Tom Roberts’ famous painting of the opening of the first Federal Parliament of Australia. Guided tours explain the interesting symbolism of the building.
