National Gallery of Australia
Nearly all of Australia’s major galleries have extensive Indigenous sections, and are well worth a visit. The National Gallery of Australia in Canberra has one of the most impressive collections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander works, including desert paintings, prints, photos, sculptures, baskets and textiles representing all the major Australian Indigenous art forms. There is also an impressive memorial, built from 200 hollow log coffins from Central Arnhem Land, to commemorate the Aboriginal lives lost during 200 years of colonial occupation.
