St Matthews Church, Windsor

Many familiar names from Australian history lessons are associated with this attractive old church. It was designed by the convict architect Francis Greenway under the direction of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, and consecrated in 1822 by Samuel Marsden, the convicts’ chaplain. Plaques mark the graves of several First Fleeters (the first convicts sent to Australia) buried in the cemetery.
