Bellingen Bat Island
Back to nature
Thousands of flying foxes hang upside-down in the trees in this island in the centre of the small town of Bellingen. During the day you’ll see them fanning their wings to keep cool, grooming, and tending young (from October to April). At dusk they fly away to feed. As protection from stinging nettles, mosquitoes and leeches, wear long sleeves, pants and closed shoes, and put on a hat to shield you from droppings!
