Barrington Tops Tracks

The Barrington Tops is a subalpine plateau between a series of extinct volcanic peaks in the Mount Royal Range. It has many spectacular walks on interconnected tracks that can make excellent day walks or overnight hikes. For a 27-kilometre, two-day venture, park at Junction Pools and climb Careys Peak (1545 metres) via Black Swamp, then Mount Barrington (1556 metres) and back to the car via the Edwards Swamp Trail. Careys Peak affords magnificent views over the Hunter Valley. Other highlights include the alpine Beean Beean Plain and swimming at the Big Hole on the Barrington River.
