Temora

St Marys Presbytery, Nick Rains / Explore Australia Publishing

Population 4082

In 1879 gold was discovered in the area and in 1880 the town site was chosen. By 1881 the Temora district was producing half of the state's gold. Of course this could not be maintained, and the population of around 20 000 dwindled quickly. What is left now is a quiet rural Riverina town with several historic buildings. It is also a harness-racing centre with numerous studs in the district.
