The dam’s waters cover an old gold-rush town, Yalwal; today, visitors mine the area for waterborne activities such as kayaking, swimming, fishing (it’s stocked with rainbow trout and bass) and boating. The surrounding bushland make it a picturesque camping spot and provide a variety of walking tracks. To get here, follow Yalwal Rd from Nowra and Burrier. The steep, unsealed road isn’t suitable for caravans. Bring your own firewood and drinking water.
