Moss Vale

Garden in Autumn, Tourism New South Wales

Population 6725

Moss Vale is the industrial and agricultural centre of Wingecarribee Shire and the Southern Highlands. Once it was home to the Dharawal people, but by the 1870s they had all been driven off or killed. The town stands on part of the 1000 acres (approximately 400 hectares) of land granted to explorer Charles Throsby by Governor Macquarie in 1819. For most of the last century Moss Vale was a railway town and is dominated by the architecture of the Victorian railway station.
