Robertson sits high atop Macquarie Pass with some points in town enjoying spectacular views all the way across to the Pacific Ocean. The region's rich red soil has made Robertson the centre of the largest potato-growing district in New South Wales and there is a 'big potato' on the main street, although it is not signposted and visitors could be forgiven for thinking it is merely a large brown cylinder. The undulating hills of the town and region create a picturesque setting and were featured in the film Babe (1996).
