Almost directly south of the famous caves at Jenolan are Wombeyan Caves, just beyond Blue Mountains National Park and accessed via Mittagong. Five of the Wombeyan Caves are open to the public including the Figtree Cave, regarded as the best cave in New South Wales that you can visit without a guide (lights turn on once you enter). The other four caves are accessed with guides, including Junction Cave with a colourful underground river, Wollondilly Cave with five chambers, the small Mulwaree Cave, and the huge and majestic Kooringa Cave. The adjoining Wombeyan Gorge is lined with marble and is a good spot for swimming in summer.
