Hyde Park Barracks Museum

In the 19th century, thousands of convicts were transported to Australia from Britain. Many worked in labour gangs to build early Sydney and slept at night in the Hyde Park Barracks. In the museum you can find out what it was like to be a convict – what you would have eaten, where you would have slept, how you would have worked. Many items on display have survived until now because rats dragged them to their nests under the floorboards!
