Julian Rocks

Part of Cape Byron Marine Park, these rocky outcrops lie 2.5 kilometres offshore from Byron Bay, and are home to a variety of temperate and tropical marine life. Grey nurse sharks (vicious-looking but safe to swim with) arrive in winter, and leopard sharks and manta rays visit in summer. Permanent residents include cuttlefish, turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, wobbegong sharks and over 500 fish species. Details on diving and snorkelling trips are available from Byron Bay Visitor Centre ((02) 6680 8558).
