On the Stuart Highway, the Adelaide River Inn is the final resting place of a great Australian icon – Charlie the buffalo, one of the stars of the Crocodile Dundee movie. After filming wound up, Charlie lived out his days in a yard beside the Adelaide River Inn. When he died, the owners couldn’t bear to part with one of the Territory’s great characters, and so here he stands in all his glory, on the bar with his 2-metre-wide horns and characteristic steely glare intact. Needless to say, buffalo burgers are on the menu, but barramundi and chips is the restaurant’s signature dish.
