In the centre of Batchelor, one hour south of Darwin, this retreat is an architectural gem. Occupied by the manager of the Rum Jungle uranium mine in the 1950s, the heritage-listed house has been restored to its former glory, and is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens. The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a formal dining area, and is only metres from the town pool. Batchelor is one of the most beautiful towns in the Territory and, not being on the Stuart Highway, it is a tranquil spot to visit. There are scores of walking trails around the township, many of which lead to World War II sites that were occupied when Batchelor was a busy fighter airstrip.
