This barrage separates fresh and salt water and is a famous fishing spot. It consists of a free camping area with a reasonably clean toilet block. There is no worry about dogs and cats getting into rubbish bins: the crocodiles take care of that.
There is a boat ramp above the barrage, but boats wanting to go downstream launch across the riverbank – a sometimes scary exercise given the crocodile population. Some mad anglers fish from the barrage when the water is flowing strongly across it.
In the freshwater reaches the barramundi are not as big, but there is the added bonus of saratoga, especially for those who fish well upstream at Corroboree Billabong.
Fishing from the banks of the billabong is highly dangerous with the presence of crocodiles.
