Bathurst Island lies 80 kilometres north of Darwin and are the traditional homes of the Tiwi Aboriginal people. ‘Tiwi’ is said to mean ‘the people’ or ‘we, the chosen people’. Tiwi Tours run a 1 day tour which includes a visit to the local communities, the art gallery to see how some of the beautiful silk-screened work is produced as well as pottery and carvings.  A retail shop is available.  The tour includes a return flight and necessary permits.  Contact 1300 721 365.
