Mindil Beach - Darwin

Fannie Bay is aligned north to south along the western front of suburban Darwin. At the southern end is Cullen Bay Marina, a waterfront dining and retail precinct and the departure point for harbour cruises and ferries. Immediately north is Darwin’s famous Mindil Beach. This 2-kilometre ribbon of sand is where Darwinians come to fish, walk and watch the spectacular northern sunsets. It is also the site of one of Australia’s most famous outdoor markets, the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, which happen every Thursday evening from late April to the end of October (see Attractions p. A3). Thousands of people turn up to buy arts and crafts from the Top End and Asia, indulge in New Age therapies and, most of all, to sample great hawker food from around the world.
