Australian Aviation Heritage Centre
In city
Darwin was the first port of call for many early aviators – Sir Charles Kingsford Smith touched down in present-day Parap on his historic flight between Britain and Australia. The Australian Aviation Heritage Centre houses an American B-52 bomber and the wreckage of a Japanese zero shot down over Darwin in 1942. The city’s rich aviation history is detailed at the centre, along with superbly restored exhibits. Stuart Hwy, Winnellie; open daily.
