Lost City – Cape Crawford

The Northern Territory actually has three different formations dubbed the ‘Lost City’; the others are sandstone pillars in Litchfield National Park, and weathered beehive-like domes in Watarrka National Park. This Lost City is less well known, being off the main tourist routes, located near Cape Crawford on the way to Borroloola. Tall rust-coloured sandstone turrets cluster together like a smaller, more compact version of the Bungle Bungles spreading across a plateau. It is an important Aboriginal ceremonial site and visitors can only see the formations from the air on a helicopter flight from Cape Crawford. Caranbirini Conservation Reserve south of Borroloola has similar formations that you can reach by car.
