On the fringe of the Simpson Desert, you can look through the 1920s homestead here, which has been restored to a museum. Caretakers are usually on hand to discuss the history of the old homestead and life prior to electricity, running water and phones. Camping is permitted, and there are shower facilities (heated with a donkey boiler), but you’ll need to bring all your own drinking water, supplies and firewood. It is 330 km south-east of Alice Springs. There is 4WD access from the north via the Old Andado Track, or via the Stuart Hwy to Kulgera and then in through Finke Community (Apatula), through New Crown and Andado stations.
