Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve
This old telegraph station is an important part of Australian history. When the mammoth task of constructing the Overland Telegraph through Australia’s harsh desert was completed in 1872, messages from London could be relayed around Australia in a matter of hours, instead of the months it took by sea. The restored, refurnished buildings provide a glimpse of outback life in the late 19th century. Watch for wallabies hopping around the surrounding granite country.
