Around 200 kilometres east of the Stuart Highway, this is a welcome stop for people travelling to and from Queensland, particularly during the summer months. There’s a refreshing pool, and accommodation includes air-conditioned rooms and cabins. The grounds are grassy and well landscaped, with private picnic areas, and the homestead has a welcoming bar and licensed restaurant. It may be best to stock up on fuel supplies in Queensland, as the Barkly Homestead has some of the most expensive fuel in the country.
