Watarrka (Kings Canyon) National Park

Take one of the walking tracks and explore this national park, famous for its rugged red ranges and rockholes. The two easier trails, both 2.6 kilometres return, have signage along the way explaining Aboriginal culture. One leads to the picturesque Kathleen Springs waterhole and the other follows Kings Creek. If you can cope with a 6-kilometre, difficult trek, involving a climb up 500 steps and a lot of clambering over large rocks, take the Canyon Rim Walk. Your rewards are spectacular views down into Kings Canyon, and a rest stop midway at the Garden of Eden waterholes. There are toilets and picnic areas but no kiosk. Food and accommodation are available at the nearby Kings Canyon Resort.
