The Wauchope Hotel is rustic and inviting, with a licensed restaurant, swimming pool and lively bar. The hotel dates back to the 1930s when wolfram (which was used to harden steel) was mined in the area; today, there are bound to be several prospectors propping up the bar. The hotel is 8 kilometres north of the Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu National Park), one of the Northern Territory’s greatest natural attractions. Local Aboriginal people regard the huge, round, weathered rocks as eggs of the Rainbow Serpent, one of their creator beings.
