Moreton and North Stradbroke islands
If you fly into Brisbane you may be lucky enough to pass over the gap between Moreton and North Stradbroke islands. From the air you will see a swirling kaleidoscope of shoals, sandbars and channels that create a giant work of watery art. There is excellent kayaking up the western shores of both islands, or you can cross the South Passage between the islands, exploring the many channels between the sandbars. There are campsites around the northern end of North Stradbroke and in various places around Moreton Island; camping near Big Sandhills is a highlight. Ferries run between the mainland and both islands.
