Breakfast Creek Hotel

Known by the locals as ‘The Brekkie Creek’, this hotel should have had an identity crisis from birth, being built in French Renaissance style in 1889 and achieving culinary status in the 1960s with its Spanish Garden restaurant, which still specialises in massive serves of Australian beef. Over the years, wharfies, working girls (two brothels operated next door between the 1920s and 1950s), American servicemen in World War II, Queensland politicians, newspaper reporters, racegoers, bushies and socialites have all been among the regulars.
