Wooroonooran National Park Part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, the park has endemic species of plants and animals and spectacular walks through tropical rainforest. Swim in the watering hole at Josephine Falls, located at the base of Mt Bartle Frere, or see The Boulders, a large group of boulders worn smooth by tropical rains. Also visit the Mamu Canopy Rainforest Walk, which has spectacular views of the North Johnstone Gorge. Access off Bruce Hwy, west of Babinda; (07) 4061 5900.

departure point for cruises through rainforest and saltwater-crocodile haunts of the Mulgrave and Russell rivers. Deeral Cooperative makes footwear and Aboriginal artefacts; Nelson Rd; 14 km N. Bramston Beach: small community behind long palm-lined beach; Bruce Hwy S to Miriwinni, then 12 km E. Russell River National Park: small park on the coast with good birdwatching, swimming and canoeing; no facilities, 4WD access; (07) 4046 6600; 6 km N of Brampton Beach.
