Russell Island camping area (boat-based camping)
This sandy campground is on the north-east side of Russell Island, accessible by private boat. There are 6 numbered sites; open fires and generators are not permitted and you need to be self-sufficient. There are a few small walking tracks around the campground, but to protect nesting seabirds some areas have restricted access.

This campsite is located in Frankland Group National Park
About 45 km south of Cairns, this island group is known for its fringing reefs, rocky outcrops and varied wildlife. Access to the islands is by private boat from the Mulgrave and Russell rivers. Beware of the sandbar at the mouth of the Mulgrave River at Russell Heads. Advance bookings are required for camping.
