Formed millions of years ago by ancient volcanoes, the boulders at Granite Gorge are a natural wonder well worth checking out. Some, allegedly, are shaped like animals. Safari tent accommodation is available and there’s a kiosk serving light lunches. Take a walk beside the creek, go fishing or feed the wallabies. Granite Gorge Nature Park is 12 km west of Mareeba on Chewko Rd. Note: laundry facilities are available.
