Population 6806

Mareeba was the first town settled on the Atherton Tableland by pastoralist John Atherton in 1877. Tobacco production began in the 1950s, but was deregulated only a few years ago. Today the area produces mangoes, coffee and sugarcane. The morning balloon flights over the tableland are spectacular.
