This scenic campground on an old 1870s goldmining site is on the Mulligan Hwy (Peninsula Developmental Rd), about 150 km north-west of Mareeba and 30 km south of Lakeland. Up to 17 000 diggers lived in the area in the mid 1870s – check out the artefacts at the pub. Mainly unsealed, the Peninsula Developmental Rd heads north from Mareeba for 750 km to Weipa, and is the main Cape York road.
