This old sawmill site is now a clearing for campers, but offers no facilities. It is reached from Barakula State Forest Rd off Auburn Rd. Go past the Department of Primary Industries area and look for the forestry camp signs to Dogwood Creek. Bring drinking water and a gas/fuel stove. Open fires are permitted when there are no fire bans, but exercise caution, as there are no formal fire areas.

How to book: NPRSR 13 7468 Permits: camping permit required

This campsite is located in Barakula State Forest

Expect to see logging trucks on the access roads at Barakula, as this forest is a major supplier of cypress pine. Despite the presence of industry, the forest (about 45 km north of Chinchilla) is known for providing good fishing opportunities after rains, and there’s plenty on display for wildlife watchers. Go west on the Warrego Hwy from Chinchilla, then take Auburn Rd north to Barakula. Advance bookings are required for all camping.
