Located close to Monto, Cania Dam holds yellowbelly, silver perch and Australian bass to 3 kg. Cania’s big drawcard though is the saratoga. Initially stocked with only 200 individuals, the saratoga have bred to a substantial population that can be quite easily targeted and caught.
The lake features postcard-pretty surroundings of sandstone escarpments and cliff faces, and an abundance of wildlife. A dual-lane boat ramp, between the dam wall and the spillway at the southern end of the dam, can be used even when the lake is down to half. When water levels are lower than this, many anglers drive down a track toward the dam wall and launch from there.
There are no boating restrictions at Cania Dam but you will require a fishing permit.
