Texas
Town
Population 694
Texas lies alongside the Dumaresq River (pronounced Du-meric) and the Queensland–New South Wales border. Its name comes from the similarity between an 1850s land dispute in the area to a dispute between the Republic of Texas and Mexico. The town was originally on the river flat, 2 kilometres from its current position. Severe floods forced the move. Remains of the original town can be seen on the river off Schwenke Street.
