Obviously Queensland is known for its superb beaches, and the Sunshine Coast – although busy – rarely seems as overpopulated as the Gold Coast, south of Brisbane. Throw your towel down on virtually any patch of sand and enjoy the surrounds. The superb family-friendly Dicky and Kings beaches at Caloundra are particularly recommended.
