Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach, a laidback coastal town south of Fraser Island, is a haven for anglers and surfers. It is located midway along the long, curving beach of the same name, and hosts a fishing competition each July when the region’s legendary schools of tailor start appearing, lasting until around October. South of town, the beach leads towards Double Island Point, rising into a sloping, coloured cliff face (hence the name Rainbow Beach). From town you can walk to the Carlo Sand Blow, which is a takeoff point for hang-gliders, and there is good diving at Wolf Rock, offshore from Double Island Point.
