At the top of the Whitsunday coast is the no-fuss holiday town of Bowen, positioned within 5 kilometres of eight pristine beaches and bays. Horseshoe Bay to the north, a boulder-framed crescent of golden sand, is a favourite. It is connected to secluded Murray Bay via a walking track, and onwards to Rose Bay, offering views to Gloucester Island. At each of these bays, snorkellers have access to a world of topical fish and coral just off the beach. Another beach, Coral Bay, is ‘clothing-optional’.
