Coconut Beach has no facilities and suits self-sufficient campers. Access is by boat only; beware of marine stingers Oct–May and beware of estuarine crocodiles year-round. The campground is surrounded by the waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park; anglers should check zoning and regulations before casting off.

This campsite is located in Cape Upstart National Park

Known for its granite outcrops and sandy beaches, Cape Upstart National Park is a large headland north of Bowen and south of Ayr. With no access for vehicles, camping is boat-based only. There are ramps at Elliot River near Guthalungra and at Molongle Creek, south of Gumlu. Advance bookings are required for camping.
