Scawfell Island

Bush camping is permitted on Scawfell Island, part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area off the coast of Mackay. Toilets and a shelter shed are the only facilities so you’ll need to bring all self-sufficient supplies including drinking water and a gas/fuel stove. The island is an important turtle rookery, and the surrounding coral reefs provide excellent snorkelling, but beware of marine stingers Oct–May.
