This winery, located between the city and the hills, was the first venture of Penfolds, one of Australia’s best known winemakers. Established in 1844, the vintage cellar is still used for making shiraz, and the Still House, once used for making brandy, is now used for cellar-door tastings and sales. The Magill Estate Restaurant has views over the Adelaide Plains, fine food and an incredible wine list; there is Grange by the glass!78 Penfold Rd, Magill; (08) 8301 5551; tours 11am and 3pm daily, lunch Fri, dinner Tues–Sat.
