Mount Crawford camping area (bush camping)
For self-sufficient walkers there are assorted bush camping options along the Heysen Trail, with walk-in access only, including 2 huts. The information office can provide details. Some have rainwater tanks but bring a gas/fuel stove.

This sprawl of forest reserve an hour’s drive north-east of Adelaide is a favourite escape for walkers, mountain-bikers and horseriders. Both the Heysen and Mawson trails weave through these forests and there are numerous camping locations to choose from, including more secluded hideaways. As well as the reserve’s natural assets, it’s also on the doorstep of the famed wine regions of the Eden and Barossa valleys. If you’re horseriding, you’ll need a permit, and there is now a camp that caters for horses at Starkeys Reserve.
